Named as a "Rising Star" in New England Super Lawyers 2008, Tracey has been practicing law since 1997. Since 2005, Tracey's primary area of emphasis has been divorce and family law. Tracey has successfully represented clients from the Upper Valley to the southern tier of New Hampshire in numerous aspects of divorce and family law cases, including divorce, parental rights and responsibilities, post-divorce modifications of child support and alimony, unwed families, and interstate custody and child support. In addition to divorce and family law, Tracey practices in the areas of complex commercial and probate litigation.
With a background in sophisticated tax planning for partnerships and corporations, Tracey is exceptionally well-equipped to understand and address the financial and tax issues that arise in divorce and family law cases. Tracey has participated in the favorable resolution of cases involving valuation of private companies, determination of self-employment income, discovery of unknown assets and income, valuation and division of pensions and other retirement assets, valuation and division of stock options, allocation of health care premiums and associated tax costs, and other complex financial issues.
Tracey was recently involved in the implementation of legislation in New Hampshire requiring continued group health insurance coverage for divorced spouses. At the request of the New Hampshire Women's Lobby, Tracey testified before the New Hampshire House Commerce Committee regarding the tax implications of the legislation for employers and employees. Tracey delivered a training session to the New Hampshire family law judges and marital masters on the application of the new legislation to family law cases in New Hampshire.
Tracey provides professional and compassionate representation with the goal of ensuring that you make fully informed choices about the conduct and resolution of your case. Tracey will work with you to define your goals and evaluate whether a favorable outcome can best be achieved through direct negotiation between attorneys, mediation, litigation, or some combination of the three. Tracey contributes her time as a pro bono attorney in divorce and family law cases, including domestic violence cases through the DOVE project of the New Hampshire Bar Association. She serves as a member of the Public Policy Committee of the New Hampshire Women's Bar Association.
Tracey is a graduate of St. Paul's School, Dartmouth College, and the University of Maryland School of Law, where she graduated first in her class. Immediately after graduation from law school, Tracey clerked for Judge Francis Murnaghan of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Tracey entered practice as a partnership and corporate tax attorney, first for McGuire Woods, LLP in Virginia, and then with Ropes & Gray in Boston, Massachusetts, before turning her attention to divorce and family law.
Tracey's roots in New Hampshire are deep, extending from the Upper Valley to the North Country where her father, John Goyette, was the Executive Director of the White Mountain Festival for the Arts in Jefferson during the 1970s. A longtime member of the Appalachian Mountain Club, Tracey can often be found on the trails of the White Mountains. She is an avid cross-country skier, and an enthusiastic amateur cook. Tracey lives in Concord with her son, Evan.
